Here she tells you her story in her own words. "I have always wanted to be a writer for my profession. Although my first play won a national competition when I was twenty-two and was hailed as a success, I didn't feel a success inside. I wanted to be admired in the eyes of the professionals, and valued the opinions of those I saw as powerful - theatre directors, agents, critics; but I had very little sense of my own power in relation to them. Lacking the inner confidence to ask for support, I strove to finish things without feedback and became very isolated. I took longer and longer to finish commissioned work, which drained my confidence even more, and finally I took on a play that I simply never finished at all. I had gradually lost the joy I had once had in writing, and with it the capacity to earn much money from it. I took a succession of other jobs and although I never lost hope of somehow, magically turning things round, I simply lacked the tools to do so. In January I contacted a coach as I wanted to focus very specifically on my career - did I still want to write? Or was there something else I could do? At my first meeting, I laid out my situation and came away feeling inspired and motivated, feeling that Lisa had not only listened but did not think my desire to earn a living creatively was arrogant, absurd or over ambitious. She had an intuitive yet practical approach to coaching which I liked. Lisa encouraged me to value my own intuition and to follow it. With the help of visualizations and exercises to do over the week, I began to engage with both the professional and creative potentials inside me. I came to believe I could be a high-earning creative professional! Over the weeks, she suggested ways of building support for myself as a writer and creating positive visualizations of my future career. I imagined the kind of people I would be engaging with and the mix of work and personal life. Even engaging with my obstacles and negative self-belief became a creative thing to do. With Lisa's encouragement, I began to see that I was powerful and my enthusiasm for my work began to return. I started to send work out to producers and to take a more proactive approach. By May, I began to get invitations to writing events, meetings with film and TV companies about my writing. Spending time in the sessions getting clear about what I wanted in each situation, helped me to create a positive outcome for myself. In July, I had my big breakthrough: I got my first television contract for an episode of a well-known soap, and since then I have had non-stop work for the same soap, as well as other opportunities. I am earning a good income, more importantly I am really enjoying the writing and feeling positive about using my skills and talents. I am supported in my work and feel part of a team of other writers and script editors. I get lots of feedback and encouragement, which I thrive on. Coaching has shown me that success comes from within, from setting and achieving goals - the good opinion of others comes second; even failures and rejections are creative opportunities."
